Jordan's Biblical Journey
North to south, arriving at Petra only once the scripture has been laid out beneath you — and ending in the quietest place in the country.
Day two
Jerash, Ajloun, Anjara and Tell Mar Elias
Gerasa of the Decapolis, among the best-preserved Roman cities anywhere — colonnaded street, oval forum, two theatres. Then Ajloun Castle for the view across northern Jordan, Our Lady of the Mountain at Anjara, where tradition holds that Jesus and his disciples rested, and Tell Mar Elias, traditionally the birthplace of Elijah.

Day three
Madaba, Mount Nebo, Machaerus and the Baptism Site
The sixth-century mosaic map on the floor of St George's — the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land, made by people who had walked it. Up to Nebo, where Moses saw the land he would not enter. Machaerus, Herod's hilltop fortress where Josephus places the imprisonment of John the Baptist. Then Bethany Beyond the Jordan, and down to the Dead Sea for the night.

Day four
South through the Arnon to Petra
Down the King's Highway and across Wadi Al-Mujib — the Arnon gorge that marked the border of Moab — stopping at the Crusader fortress of Shobak before arriving in Petra.

Day five
Petra, a full day
Through the Siq to the Treasury and as far into the city as you wish to walk. The Byzantine church and its mosaics where accessible, and the Monastery for those with the legs for the climb. This is Edom, and Aaron's tomb stands on the mountain above you.

Day six
Wadi Rum, and a night in the desert
Three hours by 4x4 through the valleys, sandstone and inscriptions of Wadi Rum, then Bedouin hospitality, a traditional dinner, and a night in camp under more stars than most people have seen.
Day seven
Umm ar-Rasas and Amman
North to Umm ar-Rasas for its Byzantine churches and mosaic floors, then back to Amman for the Citadel and the Roman theatre, with the afternoon free.

Departure
Breakfast and free time to suit your flight, then a private transfer to Queen Alia.
